Teboho Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin has provided an update on his client’s proposed move to Al Ahly, insisting there are no negotiations ongoing between both parties currently.
African champions Al Ahly have been linked with a move for the Mamelodi Sundowns’ star for some time now after impressing during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 27-year-old has played every single minute on South Africa’s road to the semi-finals of the AFCON, scoring an emphatic victory against Morocco in the round of 16.
With reports coming out of Qatar revealing that Mokoena will be heading toward Al-Wakrah, Al Ahly’s fans thought they had their hopes dashed before the player’s agent came out to deny the news.
Speaking on his client’s future, Binkin said via MBC Egypt: “In recent months, there have been many speculations that Mokoena will join Al Ahly, but I cannot confirm nor deny this.
“There are no negotiations between Al Ahly and Mokoena, and I am not aware of Al Ahly negotiating with Sundowns regarding the player.
“Al Ahly may have contacted Sundowns, but from my side, I cannot confirm nor deny that.
“Everything being said about offers made to Mokoena is just rumors. As far as I know, there are no offers from Al Ahly, and the player still has two seasons remaining on his contract with Sundowns.
“There are no negotiations with Qatari club Al Wakrah. This is not true!”
Al Ahly have already started recruiting for the next season, having reached an agreement to sign Algerian defender Zineddine Belaid from USM Alger.
The Reds are also said to be in talks with Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi and Moroccan left-back Yahia Attiyat Allah over a potential move this summer.
