Mohamed Salah captained Liverpool as they were edged out 1-0 by Preston North End in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly at the AXA Training Centre on Friday.
Egypt’s Mohamed Salah captained the Reds and started the game alongside Dominik Szoboszlai as the full line-up came as follows: Jaros, Bradley, Van den Berg, Quansah, Tsimikas, Jones, Elliott, Szoboszlai, Doak, Salah, Carvalho. Szoboszlai was replaced in the 33rd minute by Endo.
The Reds started the game well and just three minutes in, Ben Doak was released into space via the left channel, before his shot was blocked out by Brad Potts.
For their next chance, Mohamed Salah narrowly smashed the crossbar with a good volley from inside the area after Preston had only partially cleared Kostas Tsimikas’ cross on an overlap down the left.
Against the run of play, just shy of the half-hour mark, Preston found the net when Brady stole possession as the Reds tried to play out from the back and quickly clipped a clinical long-ranger that flew over Vitezslav Jaros and went in off the upright
Mohamed Salah was replaced by Arne Slot among 10 other players, as Liverpool started the second-half with: Davies, Stephenson, Nallo, Phillips, Chambers (Beck, 75), Endo, Bajcetic, Morton, McConnell, Koumas, and Gordon.
In the 75th minute, the Dutch coach made a further three substitutions. Beck, Nyoni, and Blair replaced Chambers, Endo, and Koumas respectively.
Liverpool tried to find an equaliser but Championship side Preston North End held firm to win the game 1-0.
The Reds now turn their attention towards their three-match tour of the USA, which begins on Tuesday. Liverpool will face Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
