Al Ahly in talks to sign Palestinian striker Oday Dabbagh

African champions Al Ahly are said to be in talks with Palestinian striker Oday Dabbagh of Royal Charleroi.

Reports have revealed that the Reds are in talks with the Belgian club concurrently with their negotiations with AIK for another Palestinian Striker Omar Faraj.

It’s more likely that Al Ahly will have to choose between one of the two Palestinians as the club already has their compatriot Wessam Abou Ali, who is currently the leading top goalscorer in the Egyptian Premier League.

Dabbagh is no stranger to Egyptian football, having been linked with moves to Zamalek and Pyramids FC over the previous few months, but the deals never materialised.

The 25-year-old started his career at Palestinian club Hilal Al Quds, before his performances in the Asian competitions earned him a move to Kuwait, first through Al-Salmiya then Qadsia and Al Arabi.

After just two years in Kuwait, Dabbagh moved to Europe, signing for Portuguese club Arouca, netting 15 times in 45 games which helped the club finish fifth during the 2022/23 season, Arouca’s highest-ever league finish.

After his contract came to an end in north Portugal, Dabbagh then made a move to Belgium in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer, signing for Charleroi and scoring six goals and assisting three in 30 games.

He has already featured for Charleroi in the new campaign, coming on as a substitute in their 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp in the opening game of the season.

On the international, Dabbagh has eight goals in 22 caps for Palestine and he is the country’s all-time leading scorer at the AFC Asian Cup, scoring three goals in the 2023 edition to help his side reach the round of 16.

Dabbagh is also the first Palestinian goalscorer in the history of a European football club.

Al Ahly is in need of a striker following the departure of Anthony Modeste amid also rumours of Mahmoud Kahraba leaving this summer for Saudi club Al-Kholood.
