Al Ahly’s wingback Karim Fouad has ruptured his ACL and is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The injury took place during Al Ahly’s clash with Smouha, which the Reds won to be crowned Egypt champions for the 44th time in the club’s history.
Fouad started the game at left-back, replacing the injured Ali Maaloul, but was forced off the pitch after just 12 minutes, with the scans confirming that the player ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
This marks the second time in two seasons that Fouad has suffered the same injury, having had to miss the remainder of last season for that similar reason.
The 24-year-old has been a regular under Marcel Koller this season, filling in for the injured Ali Maaloul, at left-back despite his primary position being right-back.
This season, Fouad has made 39 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals and assisting four times, helping the club win the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Super Cup, and the Egypt Cup.
Al Ahly had announced the signing of Moroccan left-back Yahia Attiyat Allah just last night, but it will be probably Omar Kamal or Kareem El-Debes to play at left-back for the remaining three games of the season.
