Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have identified Al Ahly’s Percy Tau as a target for the current summer transfer window.
Percy Tau’s future in Cairo is in doubt following a reported fallout with Al Ahly’s head coach Marcel Koller over training conduct.
The Swiss coach is understood to want the South African outside of the club, which led to several suitors monitoring the situation closely.
South African giants Kaizer Chiefs as well as unnamed clubs in the Gulf area are said to be keen on Percy Tau, with now Wydad Casablanca also joining the race for his services.
The news was confirmed by Saad Drib, a member of the interim committee managing Wydad Casablanca, in quotes to Egyptian publication Kora Plus.
“We are in a phase of renewing Wydad’s squad, and we are looking for experienced players to replace those who have left, like Yahya Jabrane, Ayoub El Amloud, and Yahia Attiyat Allah,” Drib said.
“A player like Percy Tau, among others, is of course someone we are interested in signing.”
Percy Tau joined Al Ahly in August 2021 from Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported fee of €1.8 million and his current contract with the club is set to expire by the end of the upcoming season.
During his stay in Cairo, Tau has helped the club win ten trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles, scoring a decisive goal against Wydad Casablanca during the 2022 CAF Champions League final.
This season, Percy Tau has made 33 appearances for Al Ahly in which he scored nine goals as the team won the treble as well as the Club World Cup bronze medal.
