Zamalek and Egypt international defender Ahmed Fetouh has been referred to the public prosecution office after hitting a police officer with his car.
The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, leading to the death of the police officer.
Fetouh was on his way back to Cairo, accompanied by his club teammate, Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi.
After the accident, Fetouh was detained at the Alamein Police Station until he was presented to the public prosecution, while Sobhi was released as the car belonged to Fetouh and the goalkeeper was not driving.
Immediately after their arrest, a drug test was conducted on both players to determine if they had consumed any drugs before the incident, with the preliminary test results returning negative.
Zamalek’s director of football Abdelwahid El-Sayed has arrived at the police station to follow up on the situation.
