The Egyptian Public Prosecution has decided to detain Zamalek and Egypt defender Ahmed Fetouh for a further 15 days pending investigation.

On Sunday Ahmed Fetouh was referred to the public prosecution office after hitting a police officer with his car, leading to an initial detention of four days.

The Public Prosecution has now decided to extend the player’s detention for an additional 15 days, while a drug sample taken from the player is being analysed.

The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, leading to the death of the police officer.

Fetouh was on his way back to Cairo, accompanied by his club teammate, Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi.

After the accident, Fetouh was detained at the Alamein Police Station until he was presented to the public prosecution, while Sobhi was released as the car belonged to Fetouh and the goalkeeper was not driving.

Immediately after their arrest, a drug test was conducted on both players to determine if they had consumed any drugs before the incident, with the preliminary test results returning negative.

Zamalek spokesperson Ahmed Salem said that the club will try to settle the matter with the family of the deceased as this is considered wrongful death.
