Al Ahly are finally closing in on Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane after they stuck broad terms with Hungarian side Ferencvárosi.
A meeting was set between Al Ahly and Ferencvárosi to finalize the Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane deal and it looks like both clubs finally found a middle ground.
The deal will cost Al Ahly $2.7 million paid in four installments, with Ferencvárosi also have a 20% sell-on fee clause.
On the player’s side, his first desire was to join Al Ahly and he agreed personal terms with the Reds which will see him sign a four-year contract until the summer of 2028.
The news comes after the player’s agent confirmed that the Tunisian midfielder is not interested in joining Saudi Arabia’s Al-Okhdood, which cleared Al Ahly’s way to strike the deal.
Ferencvárosi being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round against Midtjylland helped the player also express his desire to join Al Ahly this summer.
Ben Romdhane has been linked with a move to Al Ahly for a long time now, since his days at Espérance, and now it looks like it will finally happen as he will now replace the departed Aliou Dieng.
The 24-year-old has been plying his trade at Ferencvárosi since the summer of 2023, joining on a free transfer from Espérance, making 43 appearances in which he scored four and made eight assists.
He has also featured for the Hungarian giants this season, scoring twice in the opening league game of the season, while also featuring against Midtjylland in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Ahead of his time in Hungary, the Tunisian midfielder was playing for Espérance Sportive de Tunis, winning the 2019 CAF Champions League and five Tunisian league titles.
Ben Romdhane will now become Al Ahly’s third summer signing after deals for Youssef Ayman and Yahia Attiyat Allah as the Reds set for a historic season, which will see them compete in the newly formed Intercontinental Cup and Club World Cup.
He will also become the fourth Tunisian to play for Al Ahly after club legend Ali Maaloul, Cristo, who is currently out on loan at Etoile, and Anis Boujelbene.
