Sweeping changes in Al Ahly backroom staff

Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib has made sweeping changes in Al Ahly’s backroom staff after the Cairo giants’ successful season.

This season, the Red Devils managed to win the Egyptian Premier League for the 44th time, a 12th CAF Champions League title, the Egypt Cup, the Egypt Super Cup, and a Club World Cup bronze medal.

Despite a successful season, El-Khatib has decided to make several changes to the club’s first-team coaching staff, which most notably saw director of football Khaled Bibo leaving his role.

Bibo only took charge of the role at the start of the season, replacing Sayed Abdel-Hafiz, but his handed in his resignation for personal reasons.

Marcel Koller’s assistant Samy Komsan will replace Khaled Bibo temporarily till Al Ahly settles on a new director of football, while the latter has been tasked with being the academy and women’s football team coordinator.

Moreover, Al Ahly let go of their translator Khaled El-Gawady, and have already started their search for a new translator for head coach Marcel Koller.

On another note, Mohsen Saleh also left his position as head of the Al Ahly planning committee, with club legend Mokhtar Mokhtar replacing him in the role.

Mokhtar, 72, was a former player of Al Ahly during the 1970s and 1980s and was Manuel Jose’s assistant during his first stint at the club.
