Newly promoted Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah have reportedly reached a deal with Burnley for Icelandic winger Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson.
The news comes despite Gudmundsson signing a new one-year deal in July to remain with Burnley going into the 2024–25 season following Scott Parker’s appointment.
The 33-year-old has been playing for Burnley since July 2016, joining from Charlton, and went on to make 228 appearances across the Premier League, Championship, and even the Europa League.
He already scored for Burnley this season during their 5-0 win over Cardiff as the Clarets started the season in a perfect fashion with six points from two games.
However, it could be his last-ever strike at Turf Moor after reportedly agreeing terms with Al-Orobah, according to Saudi publication Arriyadiyah.
The report added that the Al-Orobah is only waiting for the approval of the Saudi Pro League recruitment committee to officially complete the deal.
Before his move to Burnley, Gudmundsson came through the youth ranks of Chelsea and Fulham and played first-team football for AZ Alkmaar and Charlton.
On the international level, Gudmundsson is the Iceland captain with 93 caps to his name and was part of the team that played in both the 2016 Euros and 2018 World Cup.
Just promoted to the Saudi Pro League this season, Al-Orobah will need a player like Gudmundsson, whose experience can surely help them stay up.
They hired experienced Portuguese head coach Álvaro Pacheco and made only one foreign signing this summer, bringing in Belgian keeper Gaëtan Coucke on a free transfer.
Al-Orobah starts their Saudi Pro League campaign against giants Al Ahli Jeddah on Friday at 9 PM CET.
