Wydad Casablanca have announced the signing of South African winger Cassius Mailula from MLS outfit Toronto FC.

The deal will see Mailula spend the next season on loan at Wydad Casablanca, with the Moroccan giants having an option to make the deal permanent.

Mailula will reunite with his former manager at Mamelodi Sundowns Rhulani Mokwena, who is currently in charge of Wydad Casablanca.

The 23-year-old winger started off his career at Sundowns, before departing to Tronto in the summer of 2023, but struggled for game time in Canada, making just eight appearances in which he scored twice.

He will hope now that Mokwena can resuscitate his career after impressing with him at Sundowns, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 26 games.

The Moroccan giants are trying to revamp their squad after a disastrous campaign where they finished sixth in the league and failed to qualify for the CAF competitions.

Mailula is already Wydad’s 12th summer signing after deals for most notably Hamza Sakhi, Mohamed Moufid, Mohamed Rayhi, and Bodda Mouhsine.
