Saudi club Al-Orobah have officially confirmed the signing of Icelandic winger Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson from Burnley.
Reports were emerging that Al-Orobah agreed a deal for the 33-year-old and were only waiting on the Saudi Pro League recruitment committee, and it seems all is sorted now for him to become the first-ever Icelandic to play in Saudi Arabia.
Guðmundsson has been playing for Burnley since July 2016, joining from Charlton, and went on to make 228 appearances across the Premier League, Championship, and even the Europa League.
He already scored for Burnley this season during their 5-0 win over Cardiff as the Clarets started the season in a perfect fashion with six points from two games.
Before his move to Burnley, Gudmundsson came through the youth ranks of Chelsea and Fulham and played first-team football for AZ Alkmaar and Charlton.
On the international level, Gudmundsson is the Iceland captain with 93 caps to his name and was part of the team that played in both the 2016 Euros and 2018 World Cup.
Just promoted to the Saudi Pro League this season, Al-Orobah will need a player like Gudmundsson, whose experience can surely help them stay up.
They hired experienced Portuguese head coach Álvaro Pacheco and made only one foreign signing this summer, bringing in Belgian keeper Gaëtan Coucke on a free transfer.
Al-Orobah starts their Saudi Pro League campaign against giants Al Ahli Jeddah on Friday at 9 PM CET.
