Ibrahim Adel have returned to Cairo after his move to LaLiga outfit Getafe fell through after Pyramids FC rejected the offer.
The Egypt international had arrived in Spain on Thursday ahead of completing a medical with Getafe in Madrid as he was pushing Pyramids to accept the offer.
According to local reports, La Liga outfit Getafe has submitted a $500,000 loan fee with a $2.5m purchase option, which was far away from Pyramids’ valuation.
Pyramids is understood to have rejected the offer as they insisted on a $1m loan fee and a further $5m to make the deal permanent.
Getafe also added a reported 20-30% sell-on clause, but the Egyptian Premier League runners-up wanted to increase that to 50%.
Upon his return, Adel posted a message on his Instagram account, expressing his frustration as he is now set to remain with the club.
It’s worth noting that the 23-year-old signed a five-year contract extension with Pyramids earlier this year and his new deal now runs until the summer of 2029.
Adel had an impressive Paris Olympics campaign, scoring three goals to help Egypt finish fourth and earned himself a place in the Team of the Tournament.
He had also claimed the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Best Player award ahead of Barcelona’s Abde Ezzalzouli, which linked him with several European clubs.
It has been confirmed that Adel has attracted interest from a number of European sides led by Girona, Wolves, and newly-promoted Ipswich Town as well as Leicester City.
