Zamalek turn down chance to sign ex-Milan striker M'Baye Niang

Egyptian giants Zamalek rejected the chance to sign Senegalese striker M’Baye Niang on a free transfer this summer.

Niang is currently a free agent after his contract with Serie A side Empoli came to an end in July and has been without a club since.

His name was offered to Zamalek, who are in desperate need of a new forward; however, negotiations have stalled due to Niang’s high salary demands.

Zamalek would be willing to bring the player only if he lowered his financial demands, especially after manager Jose Gomes approved the idea of signing the player.

If the player lowers his demands, Zamalek would still be interested in him. Manager Joao Gomez already approved the signing of the player.

Last season, M’Baye Niang, who is valued at €2.50m by Transfermarket, scored six goals in 14 Serie appearances for Empoli, and eight in 16 for Turkish club Adana Demirspor, where he played the first-half of the season.

Before that, Niang played for French clubs Stade Rennais, Auxerre, SM Caen, Montpellier, and Girondins de Bordeaux, and AC Milan, Torino, Genoa in Italy, while also having a spell with Watford in England.

The 29-year-old also has 15 caps to his name with Senegal, scoring four goals and was part of the country’s team that played in the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 AFCON.
