Egyptian giants Zamalek are facing competition from a Turkish club for the signature of Gabonese forward Aaron Boupendza.
A deal between Zamalek and Boupendza looked imminent yesterday; however, the White Knights are now facing competition from Turkish side Gaziantep FK.
According to Turkish journalist Ali Budak, Boupendza has not yet signed with Zamalek and could be heading to Turkey instead.
Budak provided previously unknown details about the offers on the table from both clubs, stating that Zamalek has proposed a contract worth $800,000 per year. In contrast, Gaziantep’s offer is valued at €350,000 annually, with additional match bonuses.
The journalist added that Boupendza prefers a move to Gaziantep and is not keen on joining Zamalek.
Boupendza is familiar with Turkish football, having previously played for Hatayspor in the 2020/21 season. During his stint in Turkey, the Gabonese featured in 38 games, scoring 22 goals and providing one assist, helping the club secure a 6th-placed finish in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Missing out on Boupendza would be a significant blow for Zamalek, as it would mark the second forward to opt against joining the club in the final days of the transfer window.
Earlier, Moroccan striker Karim El Berkaoui also chose to renew his contract with his current club, Al-Raed, despite advanced negotiations with the Egyptian side.
