Emam Ashour has become the latest player to withdraw from Egypt international duty due to fitness and injury concerns.
The Pharaohs will face Cape Verde in Cairo on September 6 before heading to play Botswana in Gaborone on 10 September to kick off the AFCON 2025 qualifiers campaign.
Since joining the national team camp, Ashour has been complaining of knee pain, and the medical staff has decided it’s best for him to return to his club out of fear of aggravating the injury.
The injury is believed not to be serious and the player should return back to action within five days after resting and rehabilitation.
Yet, the Pharaohs’ boss Hossam Hassan opted to let the player return to Al Ahly because he would be missing the two international games anyway.
Ashour becomes the second player to miss the camp after Mohamed Abdelmonem, who has decided to pull out of the squad to acclimatize to his new surroundings in France.
