Former Egypt boss Ehab Galal passes away at 56

Ehab Galal, the former manager of the Egyptian national team, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 57 after a battle with illness.

Ehab Galal’s health had been in decline after suffering a stroke on September 1, 2024, which led to his hospitalization.

Despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated, culminating in his passing on Wednesday afternoon, marking the end of a distinguished career in Egyptian football, both as a player and a coach.

Ehab Galal began his managerial career in the early 2000s and he managed some of Egypt’s most prestigious clubs, including Zamalek, where he briefly took charge in 2018.

He also led Pyramids FC, Ismaily, Al Masry, Pharco, and Misr El-Makassa, gaining a reputation for turning teams around and instilling disciplined, tactical play.

His time with Misr El Makassa was particularly notable, as he guided the team to a remarkable second-place finish in the Egyptian Premier League during the 2016-2017 season, earning them a spot in the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

In 2022, Galal was appointed as the manager of the Egyptian National Team, a role that symbolized the pinnacle of his career.

Although his tenure was brief, it underscored his standing in Egyptian football as one of the top managerial talents in the country.

Before his stroke, Ehab Galal was managing Ismaily SC, where he played a crucial role in helping the team avoid relegation. Under his guidance, Ismaily finished 14th in the Egyptian Premier League last season, proving yet again, his ability to manage under pressure and deliver results even in challenging circumstances.

Known for his professionalism, humility, and dedication to the sport, Galal undoubtedly left a mark on every team he was in charge of.

His tactical acumen and calm demeanor on the touchline made him a respected figure among players and fans alike. Ehab Galal’s passing is a significant loss to the Egyptian football community.
