Zamalek manager Jose Gomes shared his thoughts on the team’s performance following its first win of the season in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The White Knights kicked off their CAF Confederations Cup title defense with a 1-0 victory over Kenyan side Administrative Police FC, with Abdallah El-Said being the sole goal scorer of the match.
Speaking to Zamalek’s media team, Gomes stated: “The most important thing for me was securing the win, and we did some good things on the pitch. Teamwork will be key to winning trophies this season.”
The Portuguese coach recognized the challenging conditions, adding: “We played a good game, but the lack of oxygen affected our performance. The players’ attitude was positive, but the conditions made it difficult, and breathing was tough.”
Gomes also noted: “There were some defensive breakdowns that we need to address in the upcoming games. We are better than last season, as we had more time during pre-season to work with the players and implement our playing style.
Zamalek will host the return leg in Egypt on September 20, 2024, where they’ll look to secure their spot in the next round.
