Zamalek has secured the signing of 19-year-old defender Djeferson Costa from Portuguese club Sport Benfica and Castelo Branco.
The highly rated youngster, who holds dual nationality in Portugal and Guinea Bissau, joins the Cairo giants permanently from Castelo Branco, with the fourth-tier side having a 10% future sell-on fee clause.
Costa will be registered as an underage player and was signed upon the recommendation of Zamalek’s Portuguese coach José Gomes.
He is set to arrive in Cairo soon to undergo medical tests and complete the formalities of his contract signing.
The young center-back has previously played for several Portuguese clubs at youth level, most notably Benfica, Sporting Braga, and Estoril.
Costa was most recently plying his trade at Castelo Branco, going on to play the full 90 minutes in their defeat to Académica Coimbra in the Portuguese Cup earlier this month.
The transfer announcement is expected to follow Zamalek’s CAF Super Cup clash against their arch-rivals Al Ahly, which takes place on Friday, September 27 at 9 PM CET in Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena.
