The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has reached an agreement with Brazilian manager Rogério Micale to take charge of the U20 national team.
Micale’s previous contract was set to expire after the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the strong performance of the Olympic team motivated the EFA to secure his services for a longer term.
The Brazilian coach is expected to sign a new four-year contract to lead the Egyptian U20 side.
Despite earlier concerns after his agent announced that contract negotiations had stalled, it now appears that both sides have reached a breakthrough.
During his tenure with the Olympic team, Micale guided Egypt to a runner-up finish in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations and helped the team reach the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The decision to extend Micale’s contract also aligns with the EFA’s long-term goals for the national team. They are eager for Egypt to replicate the same level of success in the upcoming 2027 U23 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2028 Olympic Games.
The EFA believes Micale’s continued leadership will be crucial in preparing a new generation of players to compete at the highest levels, building on the momentum he has already established with the Olympic squad.
