Egyptian club Zamalek has decided not to sign former Liverpool player Ovie Ejaria just three days into his trial period.
Ejaria arrived in Egypt on Tuesday to begin his trial with the club and even went on to play for the Whites against Petrojet in a friendly defeat on Thursday.
However, the club opted not to offer him a long-term contract and both parties will look for an alternative option elsewhere.
According to reports, Ejaria had expected to finalize the deal within 48 hours of his trial, while Zamalek requested 10 days to assess whether he was a good fit for the team.
Ejaria’s trial came after a recommendation by Zamalek head coach Jose Gomes, who coached the midfielder during their time together at Reading.
This summer, Ejaria went on trial with Championship side Oxford United, but he failed to impress and ultimately the club decided not to sign the player. He also had an unsuccessful trial with Plymouth back in February.
On the other hand, Zamalek are now preparing for their game against Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Super Cup. They started their season perfectly beating their arch-rivals Al Ahly in the CAF Super Cup.
