Mohamed Abo El-Ela, the Egyptian national team’s doctor, has provided details about the injury sustained by Mohamed Abdelmonem.
The defender was forced to leave the pitch early in the second half of the home match against Mauritania due to injury.
The national team doctor has given updates on the player’s injury ahead of the upcoming match though, clarifying, “Abdelmonem suffered a bruise in his anterior muscle but is ready for the upcoming match against Mauritania.”
Hossam Hassan expressed concern during the post-match press conference, “Abdelmonem has a very severe bruise. I’m unsure if he will travel with us, and I won’t take any risks with him if he’s not fully fit.”
Abdelmonem’s exit led to an attacking change, with Hossam Hassan bringing on Mostafa Mohamed in the 59th minute.
The national team is now preparing for the return match against Mauritania, scheduled for Tuesday in the fourth round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In the previous match between the two, Trezeguet and Mohamed Salah each scored a goal, securing Egypt’s 2-0 victory.
Egypt maintains a perfect nine-point record with this win, while Mauritania remains at the bottom with three points. Cape Verde is second, tied with Botswana, both on three points.
