Masar FC—formerly Tutankhamun FC—has qualified for the women’s CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Masar FC reached the qualification round as the Egyptian League Champions. They competed in the North African qualification group for a spot in the competition.
They won 7-0 against Tunisian club ASF Sousse and 4-2 against Algerian club CF Akbou. They lost their final game 1-0 against Moroccan club AS FAR, which led them to finish second in their group, nearly missing out on qualification.
Following CAF’s announcement that Morocco would host the tournament, AS FAR qualified automatically as hosts, leading to Masar FC qualifying for the tournament as they finished second place in their group behind AS FAR.
This continues Masar FC’s impressive growth in Egyptian women’s football. They won the Egyptian Cup in 2023 before achieving a double, winning the League and the Cup competitions in 2024. They are also currently at the top of the league table with two victories.
The CAF Champions League will be played in Morocco between the 9th and 23rd of November 2024.
Eight teams will participate which are Masar FC (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), AS FAR (Morocco), Eido Queens (Nigeria), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), University of Western Cape Town (South Africa), Commercial Bank (Ethiopia) and Eagles of the City (Senegal).
