Hossam Hassan: Liverpool requested Salah rest after slight injury

Hossam Hassan expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his players after securing qualification for the 2025 AFCON.

Since taking over, the Egyptian national team has continued its steady progress under Hossam Hassan, clinching qualification with a perfect record. The Pharaohs defeated Mauritania 1-0, with Ibrahim Adel scoring the decisive goal to seal Egypt’s spot in the tournament.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, the manager said: “I want to thank the players for securing the win despite the challenging conditions, including high humidity and playing on artificial turf.”

“I also extend my gratitude to the Mauritanian people and fans for their warm hospitality.

“We faced a strong team in Cairo and Nouakchott, led by a good coach. I wish them the best of luck in the remaining qualifiers.”

Regarding Mohamed Salah’s absence, Hossam Hassan explained: “I respected Salah’s request for rest following Liverpool’s medical team’s warning about a slight injury he felt.

“The players’ determination, God’s blessing, and the team’s collective effort were the keys to our victory and qualification.

Since claiming the helm, Egypt has won all four matches so far in the AFCON qualifiers, setting a new record.

This achievement marks the first time in Egypt’s history that the team has won the opening four matches of the qualifiers, surpassing the previous record set in 2001, when the Pharaohs won their first three matches.
