Ahmed Yasser Elmohamady sentenced to 3 years in Prison

The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Ahmed Yasser Elmohamady to three years in prison on Sunday for sexually assaulting a young woman.

Investigations revealed that the player was accused in a case of sexually assaulting a woman following a complaint she had filed. After the complaint, the authorities launched an investigation. They released Elmohamady, pending further medical examination of the woman, to verify the validity of her claims and the charges brought against him.

Reports indicated that the 30-year-old was arrested in Sharm El-Sheikh and detained at the Abdeen police station in Cairo.

During the investigation, the player stated that he had a relationship with the woman who filed the complaint but denied the claim that any form of sexual assault was taking place, contrary to her accusations that he lured her to his apartment, where she was assaulted.

Holding both Egyptian and Qatari nationalities, Elmohamady has spent most of his professional career playing in Qatar, representing Al-Duhail and currently plying his trade at Al-Rayyan.

He previously represented Egypt’s U-20 national team in 2011 during preparations for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Rwanda before he eventually chose to represent Qatar’s national team, making 23 appearances for the Asian champions.

Ahmed is also the brother of Hussein Yasser, who has previously played Al Ahly and Zamalek as well as Manchester City and Manchester United, before retiring in 2018 with Wadi Degla.
