Both Cairo giants have been nominated for the African Club of the Year award after their performances in African competitions.

Al Ahly earned their nomination with a flawless run in the CAF Champions League, where the Red Devils won the competition without losing a match and conceding only once throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Zamalek secured the CAF Confederation Cup title and further cemented their season by defeating their award rivals, Al Ahly, in the African Super Cup.

Joining the two Egyptian giants in the 10-club shortlist are Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis, who reached the Champions League final, and Confederation Cup finalists RS Berkane from Morocco.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, Tanzania’s Young Africans and Simba FC, Ghana’s Dreams FC, Angola’s Petro Atlético, and DR Congo’s TP Mazembe have also made the list.

Al Ahly is the current title holder of the award, having won it six times before in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2023. Meanwhile, Zamalek won it only once back in 2002.

The awards ceremony will take place in Morocco on December 16, 2024.
