Al Ahly duo Hussein El Shahat, Mostafa Shobeir, and Zamalek winger Ahmed Zizo have been nominated for the CAF Interclub Player of the Year Award.

Hussein El Shahat and Shobeir played key roles in Al Ahly’s journey to winning the CAF Champions League.

Shobeir didn’t concede a single goal in the matches he featured in, while Hussein El Shahat contributed with five assists, guiding Al Ahly to their 12th CAF Champions League title.

On the other hand, Zamalek’s Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” was instrumental in his team’s performances in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Zizo netted four goals and provided six assists, leading Zamalek to victory in the competition.

Completing the list of nominees are ex-Al Ahly and Ismaily striker John Antwi and Abdul Aziz Issah from Ghana’s Dreams FC, the latter having recently moved to Barcelona Academy.

The shortlist also includes South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance duo Yassine Meriah and goalkeeper AmanAllah Memiche, and Algerian goalkeeper Oussama Benbot, who plays for USM Alger.

The previous two years have seen Al Ahly players winning the award, with Mohamed El-Shennawy claiming it in 2022 and his teammate Percy Tau winning last year.

Al Ahly icon Mohamed Aboutrika has also claimed the award on four occasions in 2006, 2008, 2012, and 2013, while Mohamed Barakat and Ahmed Hassan won it in 2005 and 2010 respectively.

The CAF awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Morocco on December 16, 2024.
