Al Ahly legend Emad Meteb has revealed that he is working on organizing a retirement match between Al Ahly and Barcelona.

Emad Meteb, who hung up his boots in 2018 after a final stint with Al Ahly expressed his motivation to hold a farewell game in front of the club’s fans, having never got the chance to do so.

Speaking on OnTime Sports, Meteb shared, “When I attended Al Ahly’s match against Al Ain, the fans’ support meant a lot—it made up for having retired without their presence, and it inspired me to plan this farewell game.”

He continued, “I’ve started negotiations with Barcelona and scheduled a call with their president tonight to discuss the details.”

The Red Devils fan favorite mentioned that he has yet to reach out to Al Ahly officials, saying, “I’ll wait to see how the talks with Barcelona go before approaching them.”

Emad Meteb enjoyed an illustrious career with Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team. He ranks fifth on Al Ahly’s all-time top scorers list with 75 goals in 190 league appearances. Notably, he became the youngest top scorer in Egyptian Premier League history at 21, netting 15 goals in the 2004-05 season.

Throughout his decorated career, Emad Meteb has amassed 29 titles with Al Ahly and a Saudi Pro League title with Al Ittihad in 2008-09.

Internationally, he was a key player in Egypt’s historic three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations victories in 2006, 2008, and 2010. With 28 goals in 70 appearances, he is Egypt’s seventh all-time top scorer, and he also contributed to Egypt’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations win in 2003.
