Ahmed El Adawy, the lawyer representing Mohamed Adel, has claimed that the VAR recording in question is fraudulent and that multiple individuals have been reported to the public prosecution.
Speaking to ON Time Sports, El Adawy stated: “We have filed reports against Ibrahim Fayek, Ahmed AbdelBasset, the production team, and the company responsible for VAR. They fabricated a recording attributed to Mohamed Adel.
“There is a correct part in the recording which is calling Mohamed Adel to review the play but the remaining of it is manufactured. Even if the recording is correct, the new telecommunications law prohibits its broadcasting without consent.
“Mohamed Adel did not request reporting anyone from the refereeing committe till now. We will wait till the end of the investigation because we do not want to wrong anyone. We hope the EFA punishes whoever is responsible for that.”
In an emergency meeting on Thursday, the EFA dismissed the entire Referees Committee and appointed a new one. The decision follows a controversial Premier League match between Zamalek and Bank El Ahly, where three penalties were awarded—two for Bank El Ahly and one for Zamalek. The decisive penalty, awarded in the final minute, secured Zamalek’s victory.
The controversy intensified after an alleged conversation between referee Mohamed Adel and the VAR officials regarding Zamalek’s penalty review was leaked.
