Egypt trio make CAF's shortlist for Interclub Player of the Year

CAF has unveiled the shortlist for the CAF Interclub Player of the Year award, featuring three Egyptian stars among the nominees.

Al Ahly’s Hussein El Shahat and Mostafa Shobeir, along with Zamalek’s Ahmed Sayed “Zizo,” have been recognized for their standout performances.

El Shahat and Shobeir played pivotal roles in Al Ahly’s triumphant CAF Champions League campaign. Shobeir maintained a flawless record, conceding no goals in his appearances, while El-Shahat provided five crucial assists, helping the Red Devils secure their record 12th title.

Meanwhile, Zizo was a key figure in Zamalek’s CAF Confederation Cup success. The winger contributed four goals and six assists, playing a vital role in leading his side to victory in the tournament.

Rounding out the shortlist are Mamelodi Sundowns’ South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and RS Berkane’s Burkinabe defender Issoufou Dayo.

The award has been dominated by Al Ahly players in recent years, with Mohamed El-Shennawy winning in 2022 and Percy Tau taking the honor last year.

Club legend Mohamed Aboutrika won the award four times, while Mohamed Barakat and Ahmed Hassan claimed it in 2005 and 2010, respectively.

The CAF awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Morocco on December 16, 2024.
