African champions Al Ahly have fined midfielder Emam Ashour 1 million EGP following a dispute with captain Mohamed El-Shennawy.
Reports indicate that Ashour was frustrated after being left on the bench during the match against Stade d’Abidjan.
Prior to training, El-Shennawy approached him, urging him to calm down and avoid becoming too upset. Ashour took offense to this comment, which led to a confrontation between the two players.
Other teammates stepped in to defuse the situation, with sporting director Mohamed Ramadan also getting involved.
As a result of the altercation, training was delayed until 11 AM. After a meeting between Ramadan and coach Marcel Koller, it was decided that Ashour would be suspended from training.
In response, Ashour left the club and turned off his phone. He also skipped the photo session for the Intercontinental Cup.
In light of this, Al Ahly has suspended him from team activities. He will train individually until he offers an apology to both the coaching staff and his teammates, especially Mohamed El-Shennawy.
