Zamalek’s newly appointed coach Christian Gross celebrated his first win with the team in a 2-0 victory over 10-man Ittihad Alexandria.
Swiss coach Christian Gross picked up his first three points since joining The White Knights during the 7th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Substitute Nasser Mansi opened the scoring in the 66th minute, just moments after coming on, with a precise header from Omar Gaber’s well-placed cross from the right flank. Dunga then managed to double Zamalek’s advantage in the 72nd minute with a deflected long-range effort, securing the three points for the Cairo giants.
Ittihad found themselves at a disadvantage after midfielder Abdelghani Mohamed was shown a second yellow card in the 57th minute, leaving his side with ten men for the remainder of the match.
With this victory, Zamalek now sit at the top of the Egyptian Premier League standings with 14 points, tied with Pyramids and holding a two-point advantage over reigning champions Al Ahly, who still have a game in hand. While Ittihad sit in ninth place with nine points.
Zamalek will now shift focus to their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup clash against fellow Egyptian outfit Al Masry next week, aiming to build on this momentum and continue their positive run under Gross.
