Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has shared details of his conversation with Mohamed Salah regarding the Egyptian’s future at Anfield.

Salah’s current deal with Liverpool runs until June 30, and he has confirmed that there have been no negotiations with the club so far.

Speaking to local newspaper, Liverpool Echo, McManaman reflected on a similar situation Liverpool faced a few seasons ago when Salah, Sadio Mané, and Roberto Firmino were all nearing the end of their contracts.

“We’ve been in this situation before when Salah, Mane, and Firmino were all approaching the end of their deals, but in the end, everything was resolved, and they all performed brilliantly,” he said.

McManaman added, “Their performances didn’t drop, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—they’ve been outstanding and fully committed.”

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid player also made a point that contract uncertainties have not affected their performances and acknowledged how much Liverpool fans want them to stay, “We will eventually learn the real story behind the negotiations, including the years and salaries involved, but right now, nothing is affecting their game, and that’s the most important thing.”

McManaman then admitted that his conversation with Salah gave him some concerns. “I have all the details; I asked them all off-camera, and they jokingly told me things that changed my feeling about the situation.”

“It was worrying when Salah said he still hasn’t been contacted by the club. I believe Liverpool will only reach out when everything is in place and agreed with his agent. But personally, without having more information than anyone else, I still feel that he will stay.”

The former Reds star hopes Salah remains at Anfield, considering it the best place for him to continue breaking records, “If he stays and keeps achieving his individual and team milestones, Liverpool is the perfect club for him. He wants to set records, and this is the place to do it consistently.”

He concluded, “If he wants to catch Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney on the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list, Liverpool is where he should be. Alan Shearer may be out of reach due to the significant gap, but if Salah aims for the others, Anfield is the place for him.”
