Zamalek

FIFA has imposed a new transfer ban on Zamalek due to the club’s ongoing failure to settle outstanding dues.

While FIFA’s official statement did not reveal specific details, Zamalek board member Amr Adham confirmed that the latest ban is linked to unpaid dues owed to Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib. The club still owes €983,000 out of an original €2.4 million owed to the player, who joined Zamalek in January 2019.

He also noted that Zamalek had previously paid a significant portion of the player’s entitlements but failed to meet the remaining amount, pushing FIFA to reinstate the ban. He added that the club intends to settle the full amount before the summer transfer window opens.

This is not the first time Zamalek has faced FIFA sanctions over Boutaib. The 37-year-old striker’s brief stint at the club was cut short in 2020 due to injury struggles, leading to a contractual dispute after his deal was terminated prematurely by the former club president.

FIFA’s latest sanction marks yet another chapter in Zamalek’s ongoing financial woes. Despite recent efforts under new management to resolve their lingering debts, the club’s persistent financial mismanagement continues to draw scrutiny.
