In an initiative to improve public services, Mo Salah has fully funded the construction of a new post office to serve his local community.
Located in the Basyoun district of Gharbia Governorate, Nagrig is the birthplace of the Liverpool forward, who has become not only a global sports icon but also a pillar of support for his native village.
Mohamed Salah, along with his family, has taken on the full financial responsibility for the development of the project, covering the costs of construction, furnishing, and preparing the facility for handover to the Egyptian National Postal Authority.
The project was launched in response to long-standing issues faced by the village’s previous post office, which had been operating out of a rented apartment. The expiry of that lease raised concerns that the office would be relocated outside the village, cutting off a vital service for local residents.
Thanks to community efforts and negotiations with officials, the post office was allowed to remain within Nagrig. In a generous gesture, the family of the late Radi Ghali, a relative of Salah, donated a 100-square-meter plot of land for the new facility. Salah’s family then stepped in to finance the entire project.
Local residents have welcomed the development with open arms, expressing deep appreciation for Salah’s continuous commitment to supporting his hometown.
The town’s mayor noted that the previous location was unsuitable in both size and structure, leading to frequent service disruptions. He praised the new building as a “respectable, fully-equipped facility” that will ensure postal services are delivered effectively to the village’s residents.
He added, “This initiative reflects the Mohamed Salah and his family’s dedication to the growth of Nagrig and its infrastructure. Everyone here is proud not just of Mohamed’s football success, but of his ongoing humanitarian and philanthropic work for his people.”
The new post office stands as the latest in a series of charitable projects led by Salah and his family, highlighting his commitment to giving back to the community that raised him.
