Jeremie Frimpong couldn’t hide his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside Mohamed Salah as he gave his first interview since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Dutch international was officially unveiled on Friday, just hours after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s high-profile move to Real Madrid. While comparisons between the two will be inevitable, Frimpong’s immediate focus was elsewhere, on the Egyptian king of Anfield.

“Playing with world-class players as a footballer is a privilege,” Frimpong said. “Like, I’m going to be next to Mo Salah. Not just him, the whole Liverpool squad. Just Liverpool in general. This is a privilege, a blessing that I can be part of it. But I can’t wait to link up with him. Hopefully we link up good. I’m excited for these things, 100 percent.”

Frimpong becomes the first major signing under new head coach Arne Slot, who reportedly sees the former Leverkusen man as a dynamic option capable of complementing Salah’s game on the right flank.

Unlike Alexander-Arnold’s deep-lying playmaking role, Frimpong offers explosive pace, high pressing energy, and attacking movement, a profile that could breathe new life into the club’s right-hand channel.

His enthusiasm for linking up with Salah was matched by praise for Arne Slot, whom he spoke with ahead of finalizing the move.

“He sounds very positive,” Frimpong said. “He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed. Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you.”

Frimpong also revealed that he had spoken to national teammate Virgil van Dijk and that their conversations, along with his own admiration for Salah, helped make the decision a “no-brainer.”

With Salah coming off a season in which he swept the Premier League’s major individual awards, Player of the Season, Golden Boot, Playmaker Award, and Team of the Season honors, the stage is set for a potentially explosive partnership on Liverpool’s right flank.

Frimpong’s arrival marks the start of a new era at Anfield. If his link-up with Salah clicks, it could be one of the defining combinations of the 2025/26 campaign.
