Taher came off the bench in Ahly’s opening Group A match against Inter Miami, which ended in a goalless draw, but will now sit out the upcoming ties against Palmeiras and Porto due to a strain in his front thigh muscle, as revealed by medical tests.

His absence adds to the Red Devils’ growing injury list after the team’s star player, Emam Ashour, was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament following an injury in the opening game.

Adding to the Cairo club’s woes, midfielder Ahmed Nabil “Koka” is also ruled out of the next match due to a knee injury.

Al Ahly have travelled to New Jersey ahead of Thursday’s second group-stage fixture against Brazilian side Palmeiras, which kicks off at noon local time 7 PM Cairo time.

All four teams in Group A are currently level on one point after both opening matches ended 0-0.
