In a dramatic clash at the Round of 16 stage in the FIFA Club World Cup, Al Hilal stunned Manchester City by taking the lead three times and holding firm through a rollercoaster 120 minutes. The win secured a date with Fluminense in the quarter-finals.

Manchester City struck first in the 10th minute through Bernardo Silva, who pounced after a deflection off Ilkay Gundogan.

However, Al Hilal responded immediately after the break. Just seconds into the second half, Marcos Leonardo fired home the equalizer. Then, in the 52nd minute, Brazilian forward Malcom raced from midfield and calmly slotted past Ederson to make it 2-1.

Manchester City came back three minutes later through Erling Haaland, who tapped in past Bono to level the score. Despite City’s pressure and chances for Jeremy Doku and Ruben Dias, the Saudi giants held firm, with Yassine Bono producing several key saves and Ali Lajami clearing off the line.

The match went into extra time tied 2-2, and Al Hilal once again caught City off guard. In the 95th minute, Kalidou Koulibaly rose high to head in from a corner and restore the Saudi side’s lead. Phil Foden equalized yet again for City in the 104th minute with a well-timed volley from a Rayan Cherki assist.

But Al Hilal weren’t done. In the 112th minute, Leonardo sealed the match with a finish to seal the historic 4-3 win.

With Inter Milan already out, Manchester City became the second European powerhouse to fall at the Round of 16. Al Hilal however, continue their impressive run as the last Arab and Asian side standing in the competition.
