Achraf Hakimi

French prosecutors have called for PSG and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi to stand trial for rape, following a definitive indictment request.

The 26-year-old Moroccan international, who has consistently denied the allegations, could face up to 15 years in prison if the case proceeds to trial.

The incident dates back to February 2023. According to the victim’s testimony, she met Achraf Hakimi through social media, and was later invited to his home.

Once there, she claims Hakimi kissed her and touched her without consent before allegedly forcing her into non-consensual intercourse. The woman reportedly managed to push him away and fled the apartment, later texting a friend to pick her up. She reported the incident to police the same day but did not file a formal complaint immediately.

However, investigators later obtained messages she sent to friends describing her distress. In March 2023, Hakimi was placed under formal investigation for rape and placed under judicial supervision.

Achraf Hakimi has since denied any wrongdoing, describing the case as blackmail and a financial extortion attempt due to him being an “easy target” as a result of his successful career as a football player.

The player was first confronted by his accuser in December 2023 during a judicial hearing, where both parties maintained their opposing accounts. PSG publicly expressed support for their player at the time, stating they trusted the legal process.

The player’s legal team has strongly criticized the prosecution’s latest move. “These requisitions are incomprehensible and senselss in light of the evidence,” Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, told Le Parisien, arguing that psychological evaluations have undermined the credibility of the accuser.

Meanwhile, the accuser’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, welcomed the development, calling it “a immense relief” for her client.

The investigating judge will now decide whether to follow the prosecution’s recommendation and formally send the case to trial.

Despite the looming legal battle, Achraf Hakimi has been recovering from the FIFA Club World Cup campaign, sharing snapshots from his vacation alongside former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe.
