Al Ahly

Al Ahly have announced the dismissal of Spanish manager Jose Riveiro on Sunday evening following the team’s poor run of results.

The decision came just hours after the Cairo giants suffered a 2-0 defeat to Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League’s fifth round, a result that intensified pressure on Riveiro’s short-lived tenure.

In an official statement, Al Ahly confirmed that Riveiro and his backroom staff had been relieved of their duties, with the club thanking them for their efforts but citing the team’s recent decline in form as the reason behind the move.

The spaniard had signed with Al Ahly just three months ago following his decision to leave South Africa’s Orlando Pirates and head over to Cairo‘s Red Devils.

The club is now rumored to be negotiating with Ceramica Cleopatra head coach Ali Maher and Riveiro’s predecessor, Emad El Nahhas. However, with nothing substantive from the club’s side as of yet, it remains to be seen whether these rumors translate into anything further than media speculation.

In any case, Riveiro’s exit marks another coaching shake-up for the record African champions, who now face the challenge of quickly stabilizing their season after a turbulent start to the domestic campaign.
