Cairo giants Al Ahly are reportedly pushing to appoint Portuguese manager Bruno Lage following his departure from Benfica.
Bruno Lage is currently a free agent after parting ways with Benfica. Less than a week after the announcement of his departure, it’s being reported that Al Ahly have set their sights on the 49-year-old coach.
According to the Portuguese outlet Ojogo, Al Ahly have tabled an offer for Bruno Lage for a one-year contract with an option for a second, worth around €3.5 million per year.
Across his two stints with Benfica, he lifted the 2018/19 Portuguese league title, two Super Cups, and a League Cup. In total, he oversaw 142 matches across all competitions.
Bruno Lage also previously managed Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, taking charge between 2021 and 2022. Before returning to Benfica, the coach had a brief spell in Brazil at Botafogo.
Al Ahly have sacked Spanish coach Jose Riveiro early in his journey with the club after a string of disappointing results and have appointed club legend Emad El-Nahhas as caretaker.
As for Bruno Lage, the coach is now reportedly weighing up the Red Devils’ proposal and is expected to give his response in the coming days.
