Morocco made history in Chile, defeating six-time champions Argentina 2–0 in Santiago to claim their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title.

Yassir Zabiri was the hero for the Atlas Cubs, netting twice in the first half to give Morocco a commanding lead they would not relinquish. The FC Famalicao forward struck in the 12th and 29th minutes, punishing a disorganised Argentine backline and sending the Moroccan bench into raptures.

Despite enjoying 75% possession, Argentina failed to make their dominance count. Morocco stayed compact and disciplined, with their backline blocking multiple efforts and goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomis making a total of 3 saves.

In the second half, Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi made tactical changes to lock down the midfield and protect the lead. The Atlas Cubs saw out the win to complete their historic run in the Chilean-hosted tournament and lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy.

The tournament’s best player honours offered further proof of Moroccan dominance. Othmane Maamma, outstanding throughout the campaign, was awarded the Golden Ball, joining an elite list of previous winners that includes Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, and Paul Pogba. Yassir Zabiri, whose brace sealed the final, received the adidas Silver Ball.

The win capped a sensational knockout run from Morocco, who eliminated South Korea, the United States, and France on their way to the title. It was also Argentina’s first loss of the tournament, who had won all their matches up until the final.

Morocco’s triumph adds another milestone to what has been a golden generation for Moroccan football, as the country continues its remarkable rise on the international stage.
