
Omar Marmoush marked his return to Manchester City’s starting lineup in style, scoring his first goal of the season to help his side book their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Making his first start in almost two months, the Egyptian forward delivered a decisive performance on Wednesday night, netting City’s second of the evening with a thunderous strike in the 77th minute.
Manchester City had fallen behind early when Gonçalo Franco curled home a brilliant opener for Swansea in the 12th minute. The Championship side nearly doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark, but their effort flew narrowly wide.
Jeremy Doku levelled for City in the 39th minute with a deflected shot following a cut down the left flank. Later on, Omar Marmoush came close early in the second half, missing with a long-range effort in the 51st minute.
However, got his reward later when he capitalized on a loose ball in the box and rifled a powerful finish into the roof of the net, breaking his goal drought after 270 minutes played this season. It was the 26-year-old’s first goal in his sixth appearance of the campaign across all competitions.
Manchester City controlled the final stages, and Ryan Cherki added a third in stoppage time.
Pep Guardiola’s side now advance to the competition’s quarter-final, to be played in mid-December, as they continue their pursuit of a seventh Carabao Cup title under the Spaniard’s reign.
