Hossam Hassan said the draw between Spain and Egypt offered a valuable World Cup test and showed his team can compete with top opposition.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan said Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Spain gave his team a useful test before the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He said Egypt treated the match as more than a friendly and viewed the result as a positive step against the world’s top-ranked side.
Speaking after the match at RCDE Stadium, Hassan said he was pleased with both the result and the team’s display. He said Egypt wanted to measure themselves against a leading opponent and use the game to improve before the finals.
Spain dominated possession and finished with 25 shots, but Egypt stayed organized throughout the match. Omar Marmoush hit the post in the first half, and Egypt protected the draw after Hamdi Fathi’s late red card.
Hassan also said Egypt’s Europe-based players add quality to the squad. He stressed that his staff wants to raise the team’s level before the World Cup. Egypt closed the March window with a win over Saudi Arabia and a draw against Spain.
