Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong died after armed robbers attacked the Berekum Chelsea team bus. The attack occurred as the club returned from a match against Samartex, according to the Ghana Football Association. Frimpong was the only reported fatality.
The shooting is reported to have happened on Sunday after the away match in Samreboi, southern Ghana. The assailants opened fire while the bus tried to reverse. Frimpong later died in the hospital from a gunshot wound.
Players and staff ran into nearby bushes during the attack. One other player sustained serious injuries. The Ghana Football Association expressed condolences to Frimpong’s family, teammates, and club. They also stated they would collaborate with authorities to enhance security for team travel during domestic matches.
