Ghana has appointed former Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Ghana Football Association announced that the 73-year-old Portuguese coach will start work with the national team immediately.

Queiroz will lead Ghana as they compete in the tournament across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by matches against England and Croatia.

He takes over from Otto Addo, who stepped down after recent defeats to Austria and Germany in friendly matches. Addo left the position just 72 days before the World Cup start date.

The GFA highlighted Queiroz’s extensive World Cup experience, noting his past coaching roles with Portugal and Iran.

He has also worked with teams like Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar. In his first message after the appointment, Queiroz called the job “a mission” and expressed his commitment to serve Ghana with “gratitude, responsibility, and humility.”
