Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan said Hamza Abdelkarim will join Egypt’s preliminary squad for the 2026 World Cup, putting the Barcelona youth forward in contention for a place at the tournament.
Hassan added that the technical staff will cut the squad to 26 players before submitting the final list in early June.
Hamza Abdelkarim has played for Barcelona’s youth side since joining from Al Ahly on loan. The 18-year-old forward recently strengthened his case with a hat-trick.
At international youth level, Abdelkarim helped Egypt win the 2024 UNAF Under-17 tournament. He also scored twice at the 2025 U-17 AFCON and contributed two goals and one assist at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
