Hossam Abdelmaguid made his Ludogorets debut as a late substitute in a 1-1 home draw with Slavia Sofia in the Bulgarian First League.
The 25-year-old started on the bench at Huvepharma Arena, later replacing Guinean midfielder Aguibou Camara in the 84th minute as Ludogorets made a defensive change while playing with 10 men.
Abdelmaguid helped the Bulgarian champions see out the closing stages without conceding. The appearance marked his first competitive match since joining from Zamalek in July.
Slavia took the lead after seven minutes. Ludogorets goalkeeper Hendrik Bonmann misjudged a corner, allowing Nikola Savić to score into the unguarded net.
The hosts’ task became more difficult when Rwan Seco caught Savić with a high challenge. Referee Mariyan Grebencharski initially showed the forward a yellow card but upgraded it to red after a VAR review.
Despite playing with 10 men, Ludogorets equalised in the 41st minute. Kwadwo Duah collected the ball following a defensive error and beat the goalkeeper with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Neither side found a winner after the break. Abdelmaguid entered for the final 10 minutes, coming on in place of Camara.
The draw ended Ludogorets’ perfect start to the league season after five straight wins. They remain top of the table with 16 points from six matches. Ludogorets visit Spartak Varna for their next game on Sunday, August 30.
Abdelmaguid officially joined Ludogorets on July 18. He received an extended break after representing Egypt at the World Cup before reporting for training in Razgrad at the start of August.
The transfer cost the Bulgarian club around €1.5 million. The centre-back wears the number four shirt for the 14-time league champions. Abdelmaguid agreed a three-year contract with Ludogorets.
The Zamalek academy graduate has made 15 senior appearances for Egypt. He featured twice at the World Cup and converted the decisive penalty against Australia to send the Pharaohs into the round of 16.
