Zamalek will approve Juan Bezerra’s departure if they receive $6 million after the winger returned to Cairo for talks over his future.
Zamalek winger Juan Bezerra arrived on Saturday ahead of a scheduled meeting. His return met the club’s first condition for discussing a transfer following interest from Emirati side Shabab Al Ahli.
The White Knights’ media chief, Maher Gharib, said the financial requirement remained outstanding. Speaking before the planned meeting, he added that Zamalek would announce further details once discussions with the player concluded.
“Zamalek set a price of $6 million at the start of August. If that amount comes in, we will approve his sale,” Gharib said. The Brazilian remains under contract until June 2029, giving Zamalek three more seasons on his current agreement.
Gharib also rejected reports that Zamalek owes Bezerra’s former Ukrainian club 20% of any transfer fee. He said the agreement contained no sell-on clause.
The media chief acknowledged differing views within Zamalek’s board over whether to retain Bezerra, but questioned the benefit of keeping a player who wanted to leave.
“In football, if you keep a player against his will, you will not benefit from him technically or financially,” he said.
Bezerra’s return followed more than 40 days away from the club. Gharib said Zamalek had applied their internal disciplinary rules but had not filed a complaint with FIFA.
In his statements, Gharib said the winger faced a fine equivalent to between 20% and 25% of his contract value for the current season.
He added that Zamalek had paid Bezerra’s outstanding dues from last season and his August salary, but would withhold September’s wages because of his absence.
The dispute became public last month when Bezerra accused Zamalek of backing out of an agreement to let him leave. As KingFut reported on August 7, the winger said the club had repeatedly promised him and his father that it would accept a suitable offer.
Zamalek denied that club president Hussein Labib or any board member had made that commitment, and ordered Juan Bezerra to return to Cairo, warning that his absence would trigger disciplinary action.
