Al Ahly and Egypt international defender Mohamed Abdelmonem has reportedly attracted interest from Ligue 1 outfit FC Nantes.
Abdelmonem has been considered the best centre-back in Egypt since emerging in the 2021 AFCON under Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz.
His performances in Cameroon earned him a lifeline at Al Ahly, who he has represented in 91 games since then, scoring six goals, most notably the winner in the 2023 CAF Champions League against Wydad.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Europe for some time now and it looks like French club FC Nantes are considering taking a bet on him.
According to French publication Homme Du Match, FC Nantes are looking to recruit Abdelmonem next summer, taking advantage of the presence of his national teammate Mostafa Mohamed.
The report revealed that Real Betis and Sevilla have both set their eyes on Abdelmonem due to his affordable Transfermarkt value of €3 million.
Nantes’ key man during the previous two seasons has been Egypt’s striker Mostafa Mohamed, who scored seven goals in 19 Ligue 1 games this season.
